Grenville Kleiser, "15000 Useful English Phrases"
Date 2009 | 88 pages | PDF | 1 MB
It may very well be the longest book title ever. "Fifteen Thousand Useful Phrases: A Practical Handbook of Pertinent Expressions, Striking Similes, Literary, Commercial, Conversational, and Oratorical Terms, for the Embellishment of Speech and Literature, and the Improvement of the Vocabulary of Those Persons Who Read, Write, and Speak English." But it's a wonderful resource for writers. I downloaded the e-book version of this (Sorry, Amazon!) and then downloaded the file (in many parts) to my iPod, to use during essay writing at school. I use it at home when I write my own short stories. I use some of the phrases in my speech, and I can assuredly say, everyone needs a little pizazz in their speech.
Peter Ladefoged, "Elements of Acoustic Phonetics"
University Of Chicago Press | 1995-12-01 | 224 pages | ISBN: 0226467643 | PDF | 16 MB
This revised and expanded edition of a classic textbook provides a concise introduction to basic concepts of acoustics and digital speech processing that are important to linguists, phoneticians, and speech scientists. The second edition includes four new chapters that cover new experimental techniques in acoustic phonetics made possible by the use of computers. Assuming no background in physics or mathematics, Ladefoged explains concepts that must be understood in using modern laboratory techniques for acoustic analysis, including resonances of the vocal tract and the relation of formants to different cavities; digital speech processing and computer storage of sound waves; and Fourier analysis and Linear Predictive Coding, the equations used most frequently in the analysis of speech sounds. Incorporating recent developments in our knowledge of the nature of speech, Ladefoged also updates the original edition's discussion of the basic properties of sound waves; variations in loudness, pitch, and quality of speech sounds; wave analysis; and the hearing and production of speech.
Like its predecessor, this edition of Elements of Acoustic Phonetics will serve as an invaluable textbook and reference for students and practitioners of linguistics and speech science, and for anyone who wants to understand the physics of speech.
Gothic Romanticism is a study of the relationship between British Romanticism and the Gothic Revival. Reading a wide range of canonical and rare texts, and spanning the Romantic discourses of architecture, politics, and literary form, the book recovers the collaborative project of Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Southey for a purified 'Gothic' poetry and a 'second Gothic' culture.
When the captain tells Robinson, "Young man, you should never go to sea again… God has shown you that the sea is not for you. " Robinson ignores his advice and goes to sea again, this time with terrible consequences. He is forced into slavery and escapes, but he is then shipwrecked on a desert island where he manages to survive through resourcefulness and luck.
How To Write A Book On Anything In 14 Days or Less
AVI | 1,8 GB
Techniques You’ve Never Seen Before!Okay, these techniques aren’t a fluke. They’re not the same old, same old. They are revolutionary strategies that will change the way you think about writing from now on. These techniques work for fiction, non-fiction, reports, even academic works (one of my students actually used them to write his successful Ph.D. dissertation in just 14 days)!A whole new way of writing success
What I’ve done is develop strategies, techniques and technologies that, in just a matter of hours, will turn you, the novice or veteran writer, into a book-writing machine.
I got involved with these strategies more than a decade ago when so many of my students and writing friends started to complain that they’d love to write a book, but they just didn’t have the time to create one. They really thought that to write a book you had to place yourself in a cold, sealed room, with a flickering candle, wearing gloves with fingers protruding and holding a large quill pen. You had to stay there for years, and years and years, throwing away more than what you kept… and facing inevitable disappointment.
